NbTi Superconductors
NbTi superconductors are high performance superconductors and the workhorse of the world's superconductor industry. Their major market is in clinical MRI, with more than 20,000 systems installed and well over 1,000,000 kilometers of NbTi wire produced to date.
Other large markets include Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, particle accelerators for high energy physics and magnets for large fusion reactors. Bruker Advanced Supercon has manufactured LTS material since 1962, an experience unparalleled in the industry. We continue to be a partner in major superconductivity projects worldwide, with a track record of excellence. The world's principal health care and analytics companies are among our customers.
NbTi is predominantly used in conjunction with liquid helium cooling at 4.2 Kelvin and in magnetic fields exceeding 8 Tesla. They achieve current densities up to 3,000 A/mm2 under routine operating conditions, thereby exceeding the performance of copper by roughly two orders of magnitude. Our NbTi superconductors are available in a wide range of sizes, both as round and shaped wire and with a choice of braided or varnish insulation.
