
Electrical Maintenance Engineer
Our business relies upon well-maintained and dependable plant, equipment and services to deliver top-quality product efficiently and reliably. Investment is continuing in plant and equipment, particularly with regard to the automation of production processes, aimed at further increasing throughput and efficiency whilst maintaining product quality and consistency.
We wish to recruit a skilled and adaptable Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join our established maintenance team.
Key objectives of the post are:
- to provide a rapid and effective electrical maintenance service to the whole of the factory and offices
- to ensure minimal disruption to production processes from electrical breakdowns consistent with the maintenance of high standards of safety
- to support and promote the Company’s aims regarding safety and quality throughout the organisation.
Reporting to the General Manager, duties will include:
- breakdown repair and maintenance of electrical factory/office plant, equipment and supplies
- routine inspection and maintenance of a wide range of electrical/electronic equipment, including portable appliance testing and data logging
- assisting with the development and construction of improvements and additions to electrical plant and systems incorporating computer controlled devices
- monitoring and recording the usage of electrical energy and fuel oil, and reporting any deviations from expectation
- maintenance of electrical furnaces and instrumentation and assisting production staff with the operation of furnaces for special products
- maintenance of fork lift trucks and chargers
- introducing colleagues to unfamiliar electrical equipment and training them in its correct use and care
- supervision and record of visits by outside contractors for the purpose of servicing electrical equipment
- supervising and organising the work of other electricians engaged on maintenance activities
- advising on and designing new electrical systems as and when required for additional process capabilities and efficiency improvements
- general housekeeping of the electrical inventory to a high standard.
The qualifications and qualities we expect include:
- HNC/HND or equivalent in electrical engineering
- the ability to carry out wiring in accordance with current IEEE Wiring Regulations
- hands-on practical experience of installing and repairing medium to heavy electrical plant
- keyboard competence and experience of computer data entry
- willingness to contribute to team efficiency by spotting and voluntarily fulfilling a need for assistance
- physical fitness, as the job involves some manual handling
- readiness to work as part of a team towards a shared goal, but to accept individual responsibility within the team
- an exemplary attendance record as team working relies on all members contributing.
Good written and oral communication skills in the English language, a pleasant and a helpful personality are also pre-requisite. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed team player who derives satisfaction from applying their skill and knowledge in furthering the achievements of team as a whole.
The position carries a remuneration package made up of salary, free life assurance, contributory pension scheme and four weeks (rising to five weeks) holiday entitlement according to length of service.
Hours of work are 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Thursday with a 30-minute lunch break, and 8.00am to 1.00pm on Fridays. Overtime is not a standard feature, but may be required occasionally to meet demand. A two or three shift system may operate from time to time.
There is an occasional requirement for maintenance team members to assist with the start-up of special processes as well as responding to emergency situations. As this will involve occasional attendance at unsocial hours, residence within reasonably close travelling distance of the plant is required.
