Bruker Advanced Supercon, Inc.
Bruker Advanced Supercon, Inc. was incorporated in the U.S. in 2008, thereby establishing business development and customer support operations in the U.S., primarily in support of Bruker Corporation’s low and high temperature superconductor businesses. The Bruker Advanced Supercon, Inc. main office is located at 15 Fortune Drive in Billerica, Massachusetts. This U.S. company works closely with three European companies which are also part of the Bruker Advanced Supercon business unit: (i) European Advanced Superconductors GmbH (EAS) in Hanau, Germany, (ii) European High Temperature Superconductors GmbH (EHTS) in Alzenau, Germany, and (iii) Hydrostatic Extrusions Ltd. in Perth, Scotland.
- EAS is a global leader in the development and industrial production of low temperature superconductor (LTS) wires used primarily in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), and Fourier Transform Mass Spectrometry (FTMS), as well as for large-scale research applications in high energy physics and nuclear fusion projects. EAS supplies NbTi and Nb3Sn LTS wire to a wide range of internal (Bruker Corp.) and external customers.
- EHTS develops and manufactures high temperature superconductors (HTS) and HTS devices, based on its two complementary, advanced HTS technology platforms for BSSCO and YBCO conductors. It is also developing medium temperature superconductor (MTS) MgB2 wire. EHTS solutions enhance the reliability and efficiency of electrical power grids and large energy-demanding applications. Its proprietary SuperFast™ superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) concept has the potential to enhance power grid reliability, and its HTS current lead products dramatically reduce electrical losses in large industrial and research magnets. Conductors and components made by EHTS are being used to build a new generation of compact high-power devices such as HTS motors, generators, cables and transformers, as well as high field magnets for medical and research applications.
- Finally, Hydrostatic Extrusions Ltd. offers hydrostatic tolling extrusion services and manufactures a room-temperature copper-clad aluminum conductor known as Cuponal to the aerospace and other industries. It also provides extrusion services on EAS’s Nb3Sn billets.
